In case you haven't heard, there has been a recall put out for multiple pet food brands after multiple dogs have gotten sick and a few have passed away. It's been alleged that multiple brands have trace amounts of a euthanasia drug which the FDA states should have no effects being such low levels. The J.M. Smucker Company has issued a voluntary recall of the tainted pet foods that are purchased by millions of consumers across the country because no amounts sodium pentobarbital, a common lethal drug used to put animals to sleep, is acceptable in pet food, according to the FDA, The following brands are on this list and can be returned to the store of original purchase for a full refund: Gravy Train, Ol’Roy, Kibbles N’ Bits, or Skippy Premium. At this time, the FDA is investigating how this happened but most likely, it was because some pet food companies, like the ones mentioned above, use meat from rendering facilities that process the euthanized animals from shelters. This includes livestock, cats and dogs. Poisoning can cause “drowsiness, dizziness, excitement, loss of balance, nausea, nystagmus (eyes moving back and forth in a jerky manner) and inability to stand,” the FDA says. So return that food and get your pet to the vet ASAP if they experience any of these symptoms before it's too late. Click here for a full list of the products.
