Almost all of our dogs have done it at some point have dined on the delicacy known as GRASS. Most of us have been taught that the eating of grass means your dog must have an upset tummy, especially since they often throw it all up after. BUT it doesn't necessarily mean they don't feel well. So what exactly does it mean?
Dogs are basically scavengers. It makes sense when they seem to love just eating garbage off the ground and even getting into the cat poop. They aren't exactly picky when it comes to what they put in their body. This often means wanting too much on plants with grass being easy pickings.
Grass also contains crucial nutrients that your pup might be craving. If you're worried that they aren't getting enough greens in their diet at home, try adding in some cooked vegetables or natural herbs into their diet to save both the grass in your backyard and your houseplants. Some dogs just like the taste and texture, simple as that!
If you want to continue letting your pup chew on grass, just be sure that it's free of pesticides and weed killer as that is obviously toxic to them. If you aren't positive if the grass is weed spray free, it's best to take precaution and only let your dogs chew on grass that you are familiar with.
When the grass chewing takes a turn for the extreme OR they just suddenly develop the habit, it might be time to take your pup to the vet as that can indicate something worse.
